Hello, my name is Jaclyn Ricci, some call me The LadyBug. In 2014, my husband and I purchased our first home in Boone County, IN. I looked forward to many years of happy memories within its walls. Several days after we moved in, I received an unwelcome surprise in the form of a cockroach in my laundry room! I began screaming wildly and demanded that my husband (Johnny) put us up in a hotel room until the experts had come to check out the “the situation”. I wanted them to test our home for every single disease known to man, check every nook and cranny, and employ every tactic to wipe out every single cockroach within the walls of our new home.
The next day Johnny called an exterminator to set up a consultation. Luckily, we were able to capture the little beast so he could see what we were up against. The pest control specialist took one look at our cockroach and said that he could fix our issue with an insecticide treatment for a mere $250. WHAT A DEAL! My immediate reaction was to do whatever it would take to get these things out of here, but then a new wave of fear came over me. Was I really willing to have chemicals sprayed all over my new home, which housed my family, pups, and not to mention my brand new furniture? He promised me it would be safe once the insecticide dried. What choice did I have? Some DIY cockroach eviction?
Days after the treatment I found ANOTHER COCKROACH inside by our back door, after completely losing my mind, I called our exterminator. He told me to give it a few more days, be patient. Several nights later I woke up in the middle of the night, and went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. There, sitting on my perfectly cleaned counter, was A COCKROACH. At this point, I was no longer screaming out of fear. Now I was just plain angry. My husband and I had worked so hard for this house and took pride in keeping it well kept and maintained. These bugs were not going to steal my comfort and joy, and if an insecticide wasn’t going to work, I was going to find something that did. That night, I went out to the garage to retrieve the glass jar that was currently home to our first little visitor, then I started my research. Turns out, the specific type of cockroach we were finding in our home was known as the Pennsylvania Wood Cockroach. This specific cockroach live outside, and can accidentally find themselves inside. As I continued moonlighting as an insect detective, I also found out that these bugs are very attracted to firewood and light. They are great flyers, and the female cockroach produces a fierce Channel#5, which attracts all the males for breeding.
After extensive, and somewhat obsessive amounts of research, Johnny and I made some changes to our home to try to remedy our cockroach issue. We changed the lightbulbs on our patio and moved our firewood pile to the edge of our property. These few small changes made a huge difference. In the five years since “The Cockroach Invasion”, we have, thankfully, not seen another cockroach in our home.
This entire experience motivated me to learn more about insects, their biology and their natural habitats. I began dreaming of a potential business helping people fix their big bug problems. Johnny was on board from the moment I proposed the idea to him. He is fearless when it comes to insects and has a passion for hunting and capturing wildlife. If you ever get lucky enough to watch him hunt moles, you will not be sorry. It is like watching an Animal Planet special for country folk. Soon after my initial proposal, our ideas began to turn in to reality, and the LadyBug was born.
My personal goal was to design a business that takes a holistic approach first to dealing with pest and wildlife removal, using chemicals only when necessary. Our business model includes an initial inspection of the home and the property, accurate identification of the pest, and our extensive knowledge on the biology of that pest in order to solve your problem quickly and safely.
Protecting your family, home and business from unwanted pests is incredibly important to us. The LadyBug prioritizes your safety above everything. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you are outnumbered by pests, please contact us, it would be our pleasure to help protect your home and business from unwanted visitors.
